Obama Wants Sotomayor to Provide Some Justice

May 29, 2009

She’s Brilliant, She’s Qualified, I Want to See Her Confirmed, I Want Her Walking Up Those Marble Steps and Starting to Provide Some Justice!

Thus spake Barack Obama, about Sonia Sotomayor, to the Los Angeles elite where he also touted his accomplishments so far. (here’s the video)

…and the justice to be provided by Ms. Sotomayor is Obama’s justice. As Patrick J. Buchanan points out:

When you think about it, Sonia Sotomayor is the perfect pick for the Supreme Court — in Barack Obama’s America.

Like Obama, himself a beneficiary of affirmative action, she thinks “Latina women,” because of their life experience, make better judicial decisions than white men, that discrimination against white men to advance people of color is what America is all about, that appellate courts are “where policy is made” in the United States.

To those who believe the depiction of our first Hispanic justice as an anti-white liberal judicial activist, hearken to her own words.

Speaking at Berkeley in 2001, Sonia told her audience, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion (as a judge) than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”…. Speaking at Duke in 2005, Sotomayor declared: “(The) court of appeals is where policy is made. I know this is on tape, and I should never say that because we don’t make law I know.” She and the audience joined in the laughter.

Who were they laughing at? Americans who still believe the role of judges is to apply the Constitution as the Framers intended and to interpret the law as written by our elected legislators.

In Barack Obama’s America, that is so yesterday.

Sadly this is no laughing matter. Barack Obama believes the U.S. Constitution is an impediment, an obstacle, to the attainment of his socialist agenda. So bye bye U.S. Constitution and hello another activist judge in our highest court. Sotomayor is a racist political hack destined for a lifetime sinecure, one of nine justices who are sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution.

Stamford CT Tea Party: March 28, 2009

Stamford Tea Party 3/28/09

Stamford Tea Party 3/28/09

Sunday’s Hartford Courant reported in some depth about the growing Tea Party movment that is providing a medium for fed-up citizens to voice their anger at the tyrranical power grab orchestrated from Washington by the Obama gang.

Critics dismiss the phenomenon as little more than a sharply partisan attack on President Barack Obama and the Democrats. But the protesters say their cause represents something bigger: a collective yell of “I’m not going to take it anymore” from the American taxpayer.

The movement takes its name, and much of its imagery, from American history. Participants — including home-schooling moms, Libertarians and Rush Limbaugh Republicans — compare themselves to the 18th century patriots who dumped tea into Boston Harbor to protest taxation without representation.

In Chicago, the protesters included a man with a bullhorn who was dressed as Samuel Adams. In Sacramento, some in the crowd carried signs that read “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death.” And in St. Louis, an estimated 1,000 people stood on the steps of the Gateway Arch and tossed loose tea into the muddy waters of the Mississippi River.

Saturday’s Tea Party in Stamford was a huge success by all accounts; approximately 150 people with signs and costumes attended. Here’s video:

Here is the contributor’s description of the video and the event:

Starting about 9:30 AM EDT a highly motivated contingent of a modern-day legion of the Son’s Of Liberty assembled in downtown Stamford, CT. Their agenda was to make noise. A noise loud enough to be heard in Washington DC.

Perhaps 150 brave citizens can’t shout that loud, but this morning they were heard in Fairfield County.
Unified chants of “It’s Not Your Money” and “Dump Dodd” echoed across the intersection……………Broad Street, Atlantic and Bedford Streets.

The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party phenomenon is just beginning. April 15 may unleash over a thousand (1000) nation-wide. Small towns in Connecticut are getting involved……

.
Many similar events are scheduled for April 15 (Tax Day) so stay tuned!

Sen Judd Gregg (R-NH): America Headed for Bankruptcy

March 22, 2009

This on CNN today from the guy who was tapped for Commerce Secretary but declined the offer when he saw what was going on in the Obie administration: (emphasis added)

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Even though he was almost a member of the new Obama administration, New Hampshire Republican Judd Gregg Sunday slammed President Obama’s approach to handling the country’s fiscal outlook.

Watch: Gregg warns of fiscal ‘crash’

“The practical implications of this is bankruptcy for the United States,” Gregg said of the Obama’s administration’s recently released budget blueprint. “There’s no other way around it. If we maintain the proposals that are in this budget over the ten-year period that this budget covers, this country will go bankrupt. People will not buy our debt, our dollar will become devalued. It is a very severe situation.”

Gregg, known as one of the keenest fiscal minds on Capitol Hill, also told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King that he thought it was “almost unconscionable” for the White House to continue with its planned course on fiscal matters with unprecedented actual and projected budget deficits in the coming years.

“It is as if you were flying an airplane and the gas light came on and it said ‘you 15 minutes of gas left’ and the pilot said ‘we’re not going to worry about that, we’re going to fly for another two hours.’ Well, the plane crashes and our country will crash and we’ll pass on to our kids a country that’s not affordable.”

GOP Sen. Judd Gregg warned Sunday that the country might be headed for a fiscal crash if spending isn't controlled.

Obama Fraud, The Green Czar and a Civilian Security Force

March 15, 2009

Herb Dennenberg writing in the Philadelphia Bulletin (March 13, 2009).; it’s a piece titled Barack Obama: Fraud We Can Believe In:

The hopes and prayers of the American people have finally been answered with the election of a new president: A fraud they can believe in.

Yes, and even as Barack Obama demonstrates he is a fraud, phony and hypocrite par excellence — who also happens to be in way over his head — the American people still believe in him. Yes, love is grand and his approval rating is still miraculously high. If the truth were known, that approval rating would be sinking lower than the stock market, home prices or the economy.

I doubted he was the Messiah, but now I’m not sure. When a president can be the greatest wealth destroyer in history and still maintain high approval ratings, maybe he does have supernatural powers. What’s more he is god-like. It is said God so loved the poor that he made many of them; Mr. Obama is almost outdoing God by turning so many into poor people.

As I surveyed the disaster that is the Obama administration, I was surprised by how many memorable statements of the past put the present and the president into such clear perspective. I have a weakness for books of quotations and I was re-reading that fascinating book by Robert Byrne titled, The 2,548 Best Things Anybody Ever Said.

In it, I came across the quote that describes our recent American history so perfectly. Will Durst, a comedian, put it perfectly when he said, “Voters want a fraud they can believe in.” (read the rest here)

The fraud continues: Obama’s people have mounted a pledge signing campaign; perhaps this is to counter the rapidly growing We Surround Them USA group. The Obamabots are canvassing neighborhoods, shops and offices asking people to agree saying: I support President Obama’s bold approach for renewing America’s economy and that: I will ask friends, family, and neighbors to pledge their support for this plan. Then they are asked for email address. There are training videos here and here. Here is the Obama plan: (link)
h/t Sweetness and Light

* Energy — Transforming America’s economy to run on clean and renewable energy in order to create new American jobs and industries
* Health care — Comprehensively reforming health
care so that families, businesses, and government are relieved from the
crushing costs that impede economic growth and prosperity
* Education — Reforming and investing in America’s education system so that citizens are prepared to compete in a global economy

“We cannot continue to rely
on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives
that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” (emphasis added)
Barack Obama (July 2, 2008)

In the Sweetness and Light piece linked above Steve Gilbert writes:

Anyone who is a student of totalitarian regimes, especially Nazi
Germany, should recognize this tactic. Mr. Obama has organized his own
cadre of Brown Shirts (or, if you prefer, Red Shirts) to agitate for
his agenda.
Mr. Alinsky would be proud. And rightly so. For this is simply the
continuation of Mr. Obama’s perpetual campaign. A campaign, as we noted
at the time, that was modeled on Saul Alinsky’s organizing principles.
Of course, Alinsky, had modeled his methods on the great communist
and/or fascist agitators of the past. Hence, the unsettling resemblance
to Soviet-style and Nazi Germany agit-prop.
What a brave new world Mr. Obama is bringing us.

As for the shirt color I would say green. The Green Czar is latest and perhaps scariest of the Obama appointees. Van Jones is, to quote Michael Savage, “an anti police radical activist from the gutters of the bay area”. Jones has been appointed special adviser to the Obama administration for Green Jobs. The fact that the far left has seized control of environmental issues and causes is reason enough for alarm but now we are to understand that there is a connection between “solar panels and police brutality”!

Not everyone makes the connection between solar panels and police
brutality—but human rights activist Van Jones does. Jones founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights
in 1996 to help victims of police brutality navigate the U.S. justice
system. Since then, the organization’s mission has expanded: The center
now works to reduce the San Francisco Bay Area’s prison population and
to ensure that ex-inmates can find jobs that positively impact on the
environment. Along with creating what he calls “green collar jobs,”
Jones has received the Rockefeller Foundation’s Next Generation
Leadership Fellowship and Reebok’s Human Rights Award. He serves on the
boards of Social Venture Network, National Apollo Alliance, Bioneers,
Rainforest Action Network, and Julia Butterfly Hill’s “Circle of Life”
organization.

Van Jones says in the interview with Campus Progress:

We said, “We want green jobs, not jails,” which became
our big slogan—four syllables that totally transformed our
organization. All of a sudden we were dealing with everything from
climate stabilization, new technologies, and new business models to
poverty eradication and job training. We didn’t know what we were
getting into.

In this video Van Jones clearly describes the connection between socialism and environmentalism: “the two big issues we were facing were the envirionmental crisis and also the social crisis”

Although I don’t always agree with Savage I can appreciate his fear that the Green Job Corps could provide the cadre of the Civilian National Security Force described by Obama last year. American Thinker today tends to downplay Savage’s fears saying:

Barack Obama’s recent words to promote his image as Community Organizer in Chief
were not about forming a paramilitary force of volunteer brown shirts.
They were about turning America into one, giant, community organizer’s
sandbox at enormous cost to taxpayers.

State Sovreignty: Sam. Adams on Despotism

March 9, 2009

I hope Congress, before they adjourn, will take into very serious Consideration the necessary Amendments of the Constitution. Those whom I call the best—the most judicious & disinterested Fœderalists, who wish for the perpetual Union, Liberty & Happiness of the States and their respective Citizens many of them, if not all are anxiously expecting them—They wish to see a Line drawn as clearly as may be, between the federal Powers vested in Congress and the distinct Sovereignty of the several States upon which the private and personal Rights of the Citizens depend. Without such Distinction there will be Danger of the Constitution issuing imperceptibly, and gradually into a Consolidated Government over all the States, which, altho it may be wished for by some, was reprobated in the Idea by the highest Advocates for the Constitution as it stood without amendmts. I am fully persuaded that the People of the United States being in different Climates—of different Education and Manners, and possest of different Habits & Feelings under one consolidated Governmt. can not long remain free, or indeed under any Kind of Governmt. but Despotism.

The TARP Babies and Other Hare-Brained Ideas

February 5, 2009

Today’s post is a guest contribution by reader L.S.:

Carrots Anyone, Br’er Rabbit’s selling them at a profit, and at reasonable prices. Come one, come all, let’s all shop at the Hare-Brain’s Store!

Limit TARP Execs to $500,000?

At first blush that sounds like a good idea. But let’s let the blood settle before it’s sealed and delivered to a frightened America and world. Sometimes there are unanticipated ramifications to what we first view intuitively as positive and productive.

The companies who have taken, or were coerced into accepting TARP funds are enormous, with multiple divisions throughout numerous companies within companies. Not all of these divisions are failing. Some, believe it or not, are actually money making, with outstanding managers. To place salary limitations upon the creme de la creme is tantamount to declaring (once again) that hard work, achievement, and productivity resulting in positive cash flow is secondary, and thusly devalued. It is a clear case of throwing out the baby with the bath water…. (more…)

The Forgotten Man: He Who Produces and Saves….

November 2, 2008

“The state cannot get a cent for any man without taking it from
some other man, and this latter must be a man who has produced
and saved it. This latter is the Forgotten Man.”

William Graham Sumner

Almost 100 years ago, economist William Graham Sumner aptly described the way a big government philosophy – the same philosophy Barack Obama espouses today – treats the productive American worker, calling him the “Forgotten Man.”

Well, recently Americans learned about one of those Forgotten Men – Joe the Plumber. And Joe the Plumber helped us all see what an Obama White House will mean for working Americans.

When Joe confronted Senator Obama on the campaign trail with the question of what would happen to his taxes under an Obama Administration should he realize his dream of owning his own business, Joe cast the decision that faces us in this election in stark relief.

Which is better for our economy: Politicians redistributing our wealth or growing more wealth?

And Senator Obama gave us an equally stark answer: Under his leadership, America will focus on “spreading around” the Forgotten Man’s wealth, not encouraging him to create more of it.

So while Obama claims he will cut taxes for 95% of working families, what he really plans is to take more money from the Americans who already pay the great majority of income taxes and “spread the wealth” to many who don’t even pay taxes to begin with in the form of a government check.

The Barack Obama Democrats may think it’s their right to redistribute wealth, but it surely isn’t the view of the average American worker, and it’s clearly wrong.

We know that government should focus on creating the economic conditions that will allow all Americans to prosper, not to try and redistribute wealth more evenly among Americans. We also know that the way for America to prosper is to leave Americans with more of their income, allowing them to do what they do best — create the businesses, jobs, and opportunities that drive our vast economy.

Joe the Plumber has struck a chord because he reminds us (and should remind politicians in Washington) that government, no matter how well intentioned, has to be paid for, and that money comes from guys like Joe. Politicians can either bleed him dry to fund their programs, or they can encourage Americans to create more jobs and more wealth – and keep government limited and effective.

That’s the choice we face in this election.

Redistribution: A Practical Experiment!

October 30, 2008

This item appeared yesterday in a Chicago newspaper: (emphasis added)

On my way to lunch recently, I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read “Vote Obama; I need the money.” I laughed. In a restaurant my server had on an “Obama 08” tie. Again I laughed. Just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came, I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Barack-Obama-redistribution-of-wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need—the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I’ve decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment, I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more. I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.
